American History Essay Contest
Length: 800 and 1,200 words
Topic: Patriots of the American Revolution
Choose any figure from 1773-1783 – famous or forgotten – and explore their influence on the Revolution and the founding of our nation.
All essay submissions must include a Title Page and Bibliography. [Four or more resources are expected. The bibliography should be cited in a standard, recognized citation style (e.g., APA, Chicago, MLA, etc.). Students are encouraged to use primary sources and cite them.]
- All entrants to this year’s contest will receive a certificate.
- Winners will be selected at each grade level by the Davey Jackson Chapter and will receive a medal and monetary award.
- The chapter winners will advance to the Wyoming state level competition.
- The Wyoming State winners will advance to the divisional level.
- The divisional winners will advance to the national level. The National winners will receive a certificate, pin and monetary award.

American History Essay Contest
Length:
300-600 words (Grade 5)
600-1,000 words(Grades 6, 7, 8)
Topic:Lunch with a Signer
If you could have lunch with someone who signed the Declaration of Independence, who would you choose and why? How did they contribute to independence?
Each essay must include a completed Submission Form. Essay must also have a list of all resources utilized. Four individual resources are expected. Internet resources, if used, should include the electronic address.

GRADES 5-12
American History Video Contest
Topic: Lunch with a Signer (See description at left for Grades 5-8 Essay Contest.)
Length: Up to 3 minutes. Timing of the video begins when the first visual image appears or the first sound is heard. timing ends when the last visual image or sound ends, including source credits. The student must announce only the title of the video and the student(s) name(s) before starting the video, which does not count for the 3 minutes.
Please note that the entire video must be an original work written and created by the student(s). If professional photos, film/media clips, images, recorded music or anything that is copyrighted is used in the video, they must be properly cited in source credits at the end of the video. The entire video must be the student(s) original work and not by a parent, teacher, tutor, AI, or other helper. Each video must include a completed Title Page.
